Flexible but effective climate policy instruments are needed
In addition to protecting the environment, European climate policy must not create additional burdens, but a predictable and competitive economic environment, stressed Viktória Ferenc, Member of the European Parliament, in connection with the debate on EU carbon trade in Strasbourg. MEPs of the Tisza Party voted yet again against the interests of Hungarian farmers.
According to Viktória Ferenc, Fidesz-KDNP MEP and member of the Patriots for Europe group, one of the fundamental problems of the Green Deal is that the European Union has been putting an increasing burden on the European economy. Europe also needs an effective carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) that provides adequate protection for the European industries concerned. At the same time, the current proposal contains several problematic elements that may impose additional administrative and cost burdens on importers and small and medium-sized enterprises. It is of particular concern that the MEPs of the Tisza Party voted against the strong emergency brake mechanism, which could have offered a solution to the high fertiliser prices affecting vulnerable sectors, including farmers.
We also reject the Temporary Decarbonisation Fund: further centralisation of the Commission and an additional redistribution mechanism between Member States is not the right answer to the competitiveness problems of European industry, she added.
The Member highlighted: ETS2 must be rejected as well, as its costs will ultimately have to be paid by European households and businesses. Without affordable energy, strong European businesses and a sensible climate policy, there is no strong Europe.
Fidesz-KDNP stands up for a responsible climate policy that protects people and the environment at the same time.
