The Commission’s proposal aims to amend the regulation in order to provide more flexibility to car manufacturers while keeping Europe’s climate targets achievable.

Viktória Ferenc stressed in her speech that the car is not only a means of transport, but also a symbol of our daily freedom: “It gives you the freedom to go to work, to travel, to live everyday. The sector that makes this possible is perhaps our last chance to save it and make it competitive,” he said. According to the Patriots for Europe representative, the complete phase-out of internal combustion engines in 2035 was an unrealistic, ideological objective from the outset, posing a serious threat to the European automotive industry and its related supply networks, including thousands of Hungarian jobs.

Viktória Ferenc also highlighted the importance of technological neutrality: Europe cannot afford to build the future of transport on just one technological path. In addition to electric propulsion, there is also room for hybrids, sustainable fuels and other innovative low-emission solutions. “No single technology should be imposed on the sector. Technological neutrality is not an ideological issue, but a prerequisite for competitiveness and job protection”, he stressed.

The Member welcomed the elements of the commission report that would give manufacturers more flexibility than the Commission’s draft, but indicated: are ready to make further amendments to give the European automotive industry a real chance to compete globally.

According to Viktória Ferenc, balanced regulation is particularly important for Hungary, as the automotive industry is one of the strategic pillars of the Hungarian economy, which directly and indirectly provides the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people. The Fidesz-KDNP delegation continues to support European regulation that, in addition to climate protection aspects, preserves Europe’s industrial strength, supports innovation and does not endanger European and Hungarian jobs.

Brussels, 2 June 2026

Viktória Ferenc, member of the Patriots for Europe Group and representative of Fidesz-KDNP spoke about the preservation of the competitiveness of the European automotive industry, the importance of technological neutrality and the protection of Hungarian jobs at a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Food Safety during the debate…

[17

post-2118","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-environmental-protection
["GET
