Military conflicts, the worsening energy crisis, and the vulnerability of global supply chains have once again highlighted that Europe must reduce its dependence on third countries in the area of critical medicines and pharmaceutical active ingredients, stated Vikt\u00f3ria Ferenc, member of the Fidesz\u2013KDNP delegation and representative of the Patriots for Europe group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her speech, Vikt\u00f3ria Ferenc welcomed the political agreement reached on the Critical Medicines Act, while stressing that European solidarity cannot be limited solely to joint procurement mechanisms. Member States that contribute to Europe\u2019s security of supply through strong pharmaceutical industries, research capacities, and manufacturing expertise must also receive support.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hungary is among these countries, playing a strategic role in pharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing, and remains committed to contributing to Europe\u2019s health sovereignty. However, this requires a competitive regulatory environment, proportionate environmental requirements, and genuine industrial policy support, because European patients do not need promises\u2014they need reliable access to life-saving medicines.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Europe\u2019s pharmaceutical industry needs reasonable and predictable environmental and industrial rules that simultaneously protect the environment, guarantee supply for citizens, and strengthen the sector\u2019s competitiveness &#8211; \u00a0the member added following the debate.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>20 May 2026, Strasbourg<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Monday evening\u2019s plenary debate of the European Parliament, the security of Europe\u2019s pharmaceutical supply was at the center of the discussion.
