Aurélia Hubán, Ödönné Bacsinszky

Aurélia Hubán grew up in Szatmárnémeti (Satu Mare), the daughter of the local Greek Catholic priest. In 1911, she married Ödön Bacsinszky (1880–1945), who had become a widower the previous year. His wife had died while giving birth to their young daughter. Aurélia and her husband did not have any children together, but Aurélia loved and raised Ödön’s daughter, Hedvig, who everyone nicknamed Mici, as her own.

Due to Ödön’s work, the family moved several times. They finally settled in Ungvár (Uzhhorod). They built a beautiful villa there.

As the mayor of Ungvár, then a district judge, and later a Czechoslovak senator, Ödön was one of the most influential figures in Subcarpathia (Kárpátalja).

As her husband’s loyal companion, Aurélia also took part in social duties. She presided over numerous foundations and regularly organized charity events.

The family moved to Huszt (Khust) in 1938 because of her husband’s work.

Their lives took a turn for the worse after the Red Army marched in. The Soviet authorities arrested her husband and sent him to a labor camp. He died there under unknown circumstances in 1945. The family’s properties were confiscated.

Aurélia’s father also passed away in 1945.

Aurélia remained in Huszt, where she died in 1976.
