Today, the European Parliament held a plenary debate on the Russian-Ukrainian war, which has been going on for almost three years. “Today, the people of Ukraine are sustained by only one thing: the hope for peace as soon as possible. However, we know that lasting peace is not achieved through the noise of weapons, but at the negotiating table. The European Union must become an ambassador of peace, true to its original mission. We must urge for a ceasefire and peace negotiations, instead of supporting the prolongation of a war that costs human lives,” emphasized Viktória Ferenc, Member of the European Parliament for Fidesz–KDNP and member of the Patriots for Europe group, in her speech.

“It is terrible to say, but we are slowly getting used to it, we have learned to live with the fact that there is a war in Europe. However, for the people of Ukraine, this is not just a shocking statistic, a horrifying record of what is happening on the battlefield, but part of their everyday reality. The war has a serious and irreversible impact not only on the physical condition of the country, but also on the mental condition of the people. Millions have been displaced from their homes, families have been torn apart, children are growing up without fathers, women have been forced to become breadwinners.  The population has been reduced by about half, and is exhausted and hopeless,” outlined the sad facts, the MEP of Transcarpathian origin.

Viktória Ferenc emphasized: “It is our obligation to restore peace as soon as possible, to end human suffering, and to protect the wellbeing of children and youth growing up in the shadow of war, so that we can finally begin building a livable future for them.”
